Invitations to major international conferences
  • Prof DINH Tien Cuong has been invited as a sectional speaker for “Analysis and Operator Algebras” at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2018, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Prof SHEN Zuowei has been invited to give a one-hour lecture at the 8th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) 2015, which will be held in Beijing, China, from 10 to 14 August 2015.
  • Profs BAO Weizhu, GAN Wee Teck, SHEN Weixiao and YU Shih-Hsien have been invited to give 45- minute lectures at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2014, held in Seoul, Korea, from 13 to 21 August 2014.
  • Prof SHEN Zuowei has been invited to give a 45-minute lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2010 in the Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing section, held in Hyderabad, India, from 19 to 27 August 2010.
  • Prof Harald NIEDERREITER has been invited to speak at the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) 2003, held in Sydney, Australia, from 7 to 11 July 2003.

  • Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Professor SHEN Zuowei
    2020: Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), a global science academy for the advancement of sciences in developing countries based in Trieste, Italy. 36 new TWAS Fellows were elected into its membership, including two mathematicians. Prof Shen will be among the global academy’s 1,278 fellows, representing over 100 countries.
    2019: SIAM Fellow (Class of 2019) for his contributions to approximation theory, wavelet theory, and image processing.
    2017: Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, for his contributions to approximation theory, wavelet theory, and image processing. The Fellows of the American Mathematical Society program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics.
  • Prof TAN Eng Chye was honoured in 2018 for his outstanding achievements with the prestigious Wilbur Lucius Cross Medal, the highest award that can be bestowed on an alumnus by Yale University and the Yale Graduate School Alumni Association. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Southampton, UK in recognition of his passion and excellence as an award-winning educator and leader.
  • Prof TOH Kim Chuan has been selected as a SIAM Fellow (Class of 2018) for his contributions to the development of algorithms and software for semidefinite programming and, more generally, conic programming.
