Programme Structure

Students admitted to the Master of Science in Data Science and Machine Learning programme are required to read and pass five core courses and five elective courses (total: 40 units) that are in the course list

 

Candidature Period

  • Full-time option: 1 to 2 years
  • Part-time option: 2 to 4 years

Admission Requirements

A Bachelor’s (Honours) degree or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a quantitative science (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics and Physics), Engineering or Computing Science.

Applicants from countries whose native language is not English and whose medium of university instruction is not completely in English are required to provide one of the following:

      • Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) – minimum score is 85.
      • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – minimum overall score is 6.0.

    Selection of candidates into the MSc in Data Science and Machine Learning programme is on a competitive basis.

    1. Application Steps

    Step 1. Account Creation Create an account on the NUS Graduate Admission System.
    Step 2. Search for Programme

    After setting up an account, search for the Master of Science in Data Science and Machine Learning programme by selecting these options:

    • Degree type: Master’s by Coursework
    • Preferred commitment: Full-Time or Part-Time
    • When to enroll: August 2025

    A table of programmes will be displayed after clicking on the “View Programmes” button. Narrow down the results by specifying “Master of Science in Data Science and Machine Learning” under the “Filter by Programmes” field.

    Step 3: Complete the Application Complete the application and upload all the required supporting documents. Check and ensure that all information is accurate before submitting your application.
    Step 4: Application Fee Payment Proceed to pay the application fee of SGD100, which is non-refundable. Applications that are submitted without the application fee payment will not be processed.

     

    You will only be required to submit your application online. There is no need to send any application documents to us by post by the application deadline.

     

    All applicants are to note the following:

    • Please ensure that all supporting documents are complete before you submit your application in the application portal.
    • If there are any outstanding documents which are required, we will contact you via email to request for it. If you do not receive an email from us, it means that your supporting documents are in order. 

    2. Supporting Documents

    All supporting documents submitted will need to be in English or accompanied by an official translation in English. Translated copies of the documents must be certified true copies. In particular, translated copies of the transcript(s) and degree scroll(s) must be certified by the issuing institution(s).

    Proof of Residence

    Singapore Citizens & Singapore Permanent Residents:

      • Identity Card (Pink/Blue NRIC)*

    International Applicants:

      • Passport and
      • MOM-issued or ICA-issued passes from Singapore (if applicable): Work Pass (Employment Pass), Long-Term Visit Pass, Dependent’s Pass and other Passes*

    Transcript(s)
    • Official transcript from each university or college attended. (From Bachelor’s degree onwards)
    • The university’s grading system (usually indicated at the back of the transcript)
    • Grade Point Average (GPA) document, if your transcript does not reflect the cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) or weighted average score.
    Degree Scroll(s)
    • A degree scroll is a document conferred upon a student after he/she has completed the required courses in the programme and met the graduation requirements for his/her undergraduate/postgraduate education. 
    • Students who have not yet graduated from their undergraduate studies at the point of application are to provide a Student Status Letter from their university. The letter should contain their enrolment status and candidature period.
    Valid TOEFL/IELTS score report
    • Applicants from countries whose native language is not English and whose medium of university instruction is not conducted completely in English will need to upload the official score sheet of TOEFL (≥85) or IELTS (≥6.0) as evidence of their proficiency in the English language.
    • The TOEFL/IELTS scores must be valid for two (2) years from the test date and should not have expired at the point of application. Expired scores will not be considered for the application.

    Financial statements
    • Applicants will need to select “Self-Support” under the Source of Finance field, and upload a financial statement.
    • The financial statement may be in the form of a bank statement or recent payslip.
    • The amount in the bank statement should be sufficient to cover the tuition fees, miscellaneous fees and living expenses for your entire candidature in Singapore. As there are many variables such as the rental fees and food expenses in the living expenses category, we are unable to advise you on the specific amount. 
    • Applicants who are sponsored by an individual or organisation can provide a letter from the sponsor with details of the sponsorship.
    Other Supporting Documents
    • Resume/CV summarising your education qualifications, work experience and achievements.
    • Scholarships, awards and prizes received, etc., if applicable.
    • Professional certificates, etc., if applicable.

       

      3.    Important Notes:

          • All supporting documents must be uploaded in PDF format by the application closing date. Official English translations must be provided if the original document is not in English.
          • Referee Reports, Personal Statement and GRE Reports are not required for application to the programme. Internship certificates are optional.
          • Applicants do not need to arrange to send the official IELTS/TOEFL test scores from the test centre to the programme. Applicants will only need to upload the scanned copy of the IELTS/TOEFL test certificate and indicate the test scores in the application system.
          • No candidate may concurrently be a student for more than one degree or register as a NUS candidate and of another university/institute.
          • Applicants must produce the originals of all supporting documents when requested if admitted to the programme.
          • Inaccurate, false information or omission of necessary supporting documents or no payment of application fee will render your application invalid. The University reserves the right to reject applications that are incomplete or inaccurate. Persons admitted on the basis of inaccurate or false information may be expelled.

          NUS GRTII Master’s Scholarship (NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute)

          This merit scholarship, sponsored by the Huangpu District Government of Guangzhou, China, aims to develop talent for the Greater Bay Area of China. Scholarship recipients are required to sign a Service Bond Agreement, with an obligation to work for at least two years in the Huangpu District of Guangzhou after graduation. One award of S$45,000 toward tuition will be granted to each scholarship recipient.

          The Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Scholarship is the premier postgraduate scholarship in Singapore. Set up in 1991 by the Tanjong Pagar Citizens’ Consultative Committee with funding from the public to commemorate the contributions made by Mr Lee Kuan Yew to Singapore, it marks Singapore’s continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to Singapore and our society.
