3+2 Programme Prospective Students

An applicant must have:

  • Completed the third year of their Bachelor Programme at any of our partner university.
  • Obtained a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • An applicant whose native tongue or medium of undergraduate instruction is not English must complete the TOEFL or IELTS.
    • TOEFL or IELTS Test scores are valid for two (2) years from test date. If test has been taken more than two (2) years, applicants should retake the test to have the scores reported.
    • Minimum score required:
      • TOEFL: 85
      • IELTS: 6 (overall score)
    • Interested applicants should sit for the tests early, bearing in mind that the test result has to be uploaded at the point of registration.

The latest cohort tuition fee as well as various fee type, payment procedure and other fee related information can be found here. 3 + 2 programme students are expected to pay the fee that is pegged to our MSc in Mathematics (by Coursework) Track 2 programme. There is no scholarship support available for graduate coursework programmes. 

Student are expected to read the MSc in Mathematics by Coursework (Track 2) programme on a full-time basis. They can expect to complete the programme within 4 – 6 semesters (2 – 3 years).

  1. Application for admission to MSc Coursework programme is done through the Graduate Admission System. Applicants are advised to browse through the user guide to better equip themselves before commencing your application.
  2. All supporting documents must be uploaded (in pdf format) by the application closing date. English translations should accompany supporting documents that are not in English. No changes are allowed once the application is submitted successfully.
  3. Applications and/or payment received after the closing dates will not be processed for that intake. Incomplete applications will also not be processed.
  4. Applicants are not required to mail us hardcopies of the supporting documents.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

  • Singapore NRIC (for Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents)
  • Employment Pass (if applicable)
  • Passport information page (for International applicants)
  • University transcript
  • Degree certificate/ a letter stating your full-time student status.
  • Valid TOEFL/IELTS score
    • The minimum TOEFL score required is 85.
    • The minimum IELTS score required is 6 (overall score).
    • TOEFL/ IELTS scores are valid for two (2) years from the test date and should not have expired at point of application. Expired scores will not be considered for the application.
  • Financial document e.g. bank statement / recent pay slip / original sponsor’s letter.
  • (Optional) Other documents such as reference letters and award certificates which can strongly support your application.

 


APPLICATION DEADLINE

  • 15 March, 2359hrs for consideration for admission in the August term (Semester 1) of the current year. 

 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake graduate student recruitment on its behalf.  Candidates interested in our graduate programmes are advised to apply directly to the University and not through any agents.  Candidates who apply through agents will not have any added advantage in gaining admission.

We regret that we do not acknowledge receipt of applications, and are unable to answer queries related to the status of applications and the chances of admission. This is to ensure that all applications are processed promptly.

Graduation Requirement

  • Students prior to August 2022/23 cohort reading the 3+2 Programme are expected to complete the graduation requirements of Master of Science in Mathematics by Coursework (Track 2) before he/she can be considered for graduation.
  • Students from August 2022/23 cohort are expected to follow the new graduation requirement as indicated here.
  • Students from August 2023/24 cohort onwards are expected to follow the new graduation requirement as indicated here.

Continuation Requirement

  • Student will be issued a warning for any semester in which his/her GPA falls below 3.00.
  • If in the following semester, the student’s GPA again falls below 3.00 but is above 2.50, he/she will be placed on probation.
  • The candidature of a student may be terminated if he/she obtains the following:
    • A GPA of less than 2.50 for two consecutive semesters;
    • A GPA of less than 3.00 for three consecutive semesters.
  • GPA for continuation is computed based on all modules read (be it pass or fail).

Only students who have completed 10 courses in their first year of study at NUS and achieved a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 are eligible to apply for a programme switch to the self-finance coursework programme. The application is subject to approval from the department and the respective programme.  These self-finance coursework programmes are:


Procedure:

The application period for switching programme is open from 1st to 7th June of the current year. To apply,

  1. Send an email to the Department’s Graduate Programmes Coordinator to inform him/her of your intention to switch to other coursework programme.
  2. In the same email, please include your latest unofficial NUS transcript.
  3. Request to transfer will only be considered after one year (2 semesters) of studies in NUS.
  4. Outcome will be revealed to students once a decision is made.

Important Note:

  1. Should application is successful, students will be asked to withdraw from their existing programme to initiate the transfer. Students may submit the withdrawal request via EduRec for processing.
  2. SG$40.00 administrative fee will be charged to students for each successful transfer.
  3. Students will be paying the new programme tuition fee as per scheduled under the respective programme. Whatever fee that has been paid prior to the transfer is non-transferrable.

When should i submit my application?

You may submit your application as long as the online system is open but before the application deadline of respective term. All supporting documents must be uploaded online before the closing date and application fee paid promptly. Late payment and applications will not be processed.

When will my application be reviewed?

All applications are reviewed and considered by a committee only after the closing date. We are unable to review qualifications before the closing date, nor advise on whether you would be a suitable applicant or the chances of admission.

Must i sit for TOEFL/IELTS and/or GRE tests?

TOEFL/IELTS ascertains a candidate’s English language proficiency and is necessary if English is not your native tongue the medium of university instruction is not completely in English. Alternatively, applicants should supply a documentary proof that the medium of instruction for their first degree was conducted 100% in English.

What is the minimum TOEFL/IELTS score required?

A minimum TOEFL score of 85 is required for the internet-based test, while a minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 is required.

Is there an opportunity for me to transfer to other graduate coursework programme?

Interested students can send an email to the department’s graduate programmes coordinator to find out about your eligibility.
