Important Notes

This is an open programme and students who wish to pursue it may declare via APAD in EduRec (latest) before the start of the fifth semester of study in NUS.

It is the students’ responsibility to strategize and plan to complete the requirements by the time they are due to graduate.

Students who are admitted in AY2018/2019 or earlier, and reading one of the following Primary or Second Majors are not allowed to read a Minor in Mathematics:

    • Primary Major in Mathematics
    • Primary Major in Applied Mathematics
    • Primary Major in Quantitative Finance
    • Primary Major in Data Science & Analytics
    • Second Major in Mathematics
    • Second Major in Financial Mathematics
    • Second Major in Data Analytics

Students who are admitted from AY2019/2020 to AY2020/2021 and reading one of the following Primary or Second Majors are not allowed to read a Minor in Mathematics:

    • Primary Major in Mathematics
    • Primary Major in Applied Mathematics
    • Primary Major in Quantitative Finance
    • Primary Major in Data Science & Analytics
    • Second Major in Mathematics

Students who are admitted from AY2021/2022 and reading one of the following Primary or Second Majors are not allowed to read a Minor in Mathematics:

    • Primary Major in Mathematics
    • Primary Major in Data Science and Analytics
    • Second Major in Mathematics

Programme Requirements

Note that courses with dummy code MAx99x cannot be used to fulfil minor requirements.

To qualify for a Minor in Mathematics, a student should pass at least 24 Units from non-overlapping courses of the following type:

    1. At least 8 Units from MA1xxx courses (except MA1301/MA1301X) and CS1231/CS1231S; and
    2. Any two MA2xxx courses; and
    3. Any two MA3xxx or higher courses, except those coded MA33XX.

Note that these ST and MA courses are cross-listed:

    • ST2131 with MA2216/MA2116
    • ST3236 with MA3238
    • ST4238 with MA4251

FAQ

Cohorts AY2020/2021 and earlier:

Yes, but note that the Units may only be counted once, and you are not allowed to use more than 1/3 of the common courses (i.e. not more than 2 common courses) to satisfy both your Major and Minor requirements. This applies to Science and non-Science Major students.

Cohorts AY2021/2022 onwards:

Yes, but note that the Units may only be counted once, and you are not allowed to use more than 2 common courses (8 Units) to satisfy both your Major and Minor requirements. This applies to Science and non-Science Major students.

Yes. Up to 8 units can be double counted towards the two minors. Do note that the other 12 units in either of the minor requirements should not be overlapping/double counted towards the requirements of any other programmes.
